Jonathan W. Thomas Bolsters Growing Advertising & Marketing Group
NEW YORK (September 18) – Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton announced today that Jonathan W. Thomas, recognized for his track record of success in trademark, false advertising, and class action litigation, has joined the firm’s New York office as a partner. Mr. Thomas will be a member of the firm’s internationally recognized Trademark & Copyright Team and will work with its expanding Advertising & Marketing Group. He was previously a partner at Mayer Brown.
For more than a decade, Mr. Thomas has provided global companies with services in complex high-stakes litigation, trademark and false advertising litigation, and consumer class action defense litigation. He has represented clients in business torts, contract, copyright, class action, cybersquatting, patents, trade dress, trade secret and unfair competition cases in federal and state courts. Mr. Thomas also counsels clients in proceedings at the National Advertising Division of the BBB National Programs, arbitrations and Uniform Dispute Resolution Proceedings as well as before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center.
“Kilpatrick Townsend’s well-earned reputation as the top Trademark & Copyright group in the country, if not the world, is what initially got my attention when I was considering firms to expand and grow my practice,” said Jonathan Thomas. “And after meeting many of the firm’s attorneys, I quickly knew this was a place that takes client service to a new level and makes collaboration across practice areas a priority – all with the best interests of the client in mind. The Advertising & Marketing Group is a growing powerhouse. I look forward to meeting my new colleagues and the firm’s clients from across the firm.”
“With false advertising challenges expanding in size and scope, clients regularly face these growing lawsuits,” said Barry Benjamin, Chair of Kilpatrick Townsend’s Advertising & Marketing Group and Managing Partner of the firm's New York office. “Adding Jonathan and his years of experience will enhance the firm’s ability to support clients in both competitor challenges -- whether in court or at the National Advertising Division of the BBB National Programs -- as well as defending class actions. On behalf of the firm and New York office, I welcome Jonathan to the firm.”
Mr. Thomas graduated from the Ohio State University Michael E. Moritz College of Law, J.D., cum laude, and the University of Kentucky, B.A., magna cum laude.
Mr. Thomas’ addition comes after class action litigators Michele Floyd and Evan Nadel joined respectively in San Francisco and New York within the last year. They both have strong practices and expertise in the area of false advertising class action.
