Insights: News Releases Ches McDowell and Nelson Freeman Once Again Named Top Lobbyists in North Carolina

WINSTON-SALEM (February 16) – Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton announced today that Ches McDowell and Nelson Freeman were featured in The North State Journal’s 2022 list of the Top Lobbyists in North Carolina. Mr. McDowell was featured in the Top 10 and Mr. Freeman was featured in the Top 25. This is the third-consecutive year they have been recognized in the Top 25, with Mr. McDowell’s recognition among the Top 10 making him one of only five lobbyists who have been among the Top 10 each year the poll has been conducted.

The North State Journal staff surveyed legislators, staffers, reporters, business leaders and parsed data on the clients represented by the registered lobbyists. The list is primarily comprised of lobbyists with significant clients—both in number and in quality. Less than 4 percent of all registered lobbyists made the list.

Ches McDowell is Senior Managing Director of KTS Strategies and is based in Kilpatrick Townsend’s Winston-Salem office. Mr. McDowell represents clients in many industries including health care, financial services, entertainment, technology, outdoor sports, aviation, municipal government, nonprofits, state-wide associations, elections, energy, pharmaceuticals, and real estate development.

Nelson Freeman is a Managing Director of KTS Strategies and is based in the firm’s Raleigh office. He has significant experience advising on tax policy, information technology and economic development, and helped secure hundreds of millions of dollars for commercial airports in North Carolina.
