Overview

Kathryn Wade focuses her practice on intellectual property matters in the biotechnology industry, including managing domestic and foreign patent prosecution; representing clients in post-grant proceedings; drafting opinions on patentability, invalidity, and non-infringement issues; and providing technical support and analysis in patent litigation. Dr. Wade has experience in the areas of biotechnology, disease treatment and diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, and biomedical devices.

Dr. Wade has provided intellectual property counsel to a variety of clients, ranging from start-up life sciences companies, to universities, to multinational biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. She routinely works with in-house counsel, scientific officers, inventors, and corporate business people to identify and protect the intellectual property of each client.

Dr. Wade has experience in post-grant proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including experience with inter partes review proceedings on behalf of clients seeking to invalidate the patents of third parties, as well as on behalf of clients whose patents were the subject of such a validity attack by a third party.

Dr. Wade received her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from Emory University, where she designed and implemented molecular biology and biochemical experiments to study the interaction of proteins in the bacterium Bacillus subtilis. Dr. Wade did postdoctoral work at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention where she conducted molecular biology research to study the genetics of cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Wade was recognized in The Best Lawyers in America® for Biotechnology and Life Sciences in 2023 and the 12 years immediately preceding. She was also named the 2013 "Atlanta Lawyer of the Year" in the area of Biotechnology Law and the 2023 "Atlanta Lawyer of the Year" in the area of Biotechnology and Life Sciences by The Best Lawyers in America®. Dr. Wade was the recipient of the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyer Foundation's "One Child, One Lawyer" volunteer of the year award in 2009.
