While attending the University of Notre Dame Law School, Dr. Rengifo worked with the firm in 2019 as a summer associate where he performed various tasks related to patent prosecution including preparing responses to office actions, claim drafting, and patent due diligence. He also worked on a portion of an appeal brief, researched patent litigation matters, and wrote memoranda addressing substantive issues. Dr. Rengifo was Editor-in-Chief and founder of the Notre Dame Journal on Emerging Technologies.

While in law school, Dr. Rengifo was a law clerk at a criminal defense, immigration, and family law firm based in South Bend, Indiana where he assisted clients in preparing a wide range of immigration related documents for individuals seeking asylum, work authorization, and adjustment of status, among others. He also volunteered with the Dilley Pro Bono Project and the Southeast Immigrant Freedom Initiative.

As a graduate student at the Emory Laney Graduate School, Dr. Rengifo designed and developed metalloamyloid nanostructures, focused on understanding the rational design of supramolecular assemblies, and developed techniques to capture and model the early stages of assembly for supramolecular constructs under advisor Dr. David G. Lynn. He also served as mentor for SURE, GSMST, and SIRE students, and graduate teaching assistant in general and organic chemistry. Dr. Rengifo was an associate in research and research assistant while attending Duke University where he co-authored a paper on mapping the surface of melanosomes under advisor Dr. John D. Simon. While at Duke University, Dr. Rengifo also founded and chartered a peer reviewed academic journal, Neurogenesis: Journal of Undergraduate Neuroscience, that showcases and promotes undergraduate student contributions to the field of neuroscience.
