Overview

Steve Phillips is a registered patent attorney with over three decades of professional experience, initially as an electrical engineer at IBM Corporation, and over 20 years as an attorney in intellectual property and patent related matters. Mr. Phillips focuses his practice on patent application preparation and prosecution, client counseling, and opinions in technologies including software, telecommunications, electronics, semiconductors, optics, electromechanical technology, and financial processes. His experience includes international patent portfolio management, Patent Cooperation Treaty practice, and reissue and reexamination proceedings.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Phillips was a partner and senior contributor to the patent team and the intellectual property practice group in the Research Triangle Park and Durham offices of a large general practice law firm based in the Carolinas where he represented Fortune 500 companies, universities, and startups in patent matters, copyright matters, and intellectual property transactions. Previously, Mr. Phillips worked as an attorney in the intellectual property law department at IBM Corporation in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina where he provided intellectual property law services for hundreds of engineers and programmers.

Prior to launching his legal career, Mr. Phillips worked as a software license administrator, and held various engineering positions at IBM Corporation in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina and in Kingston, New York.
