Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Mayle worked as a patent agent and then an associate in the intellectual property group of an international law firm in its Washington, D.C. office where he drafted dozens of winning motions and briefs, litigated in many U.S. federal venues, and gained substantial experience in international arbitration. Previously, Mr. Mayle was a student associate at an intellectual property specialty firm in Washington, D.C. where he focused primarily on mechanical and electrical-related technologies. He was also a patent examiner in the aeronautics arts at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Mr. Mayle served in the U.S. Navy for nine years and his service included tours as an active duty commissioned officer in a carrier based fighter squadron, where he was hand-picked to be on the first strike mission in Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks. He then served in a developmental test squadron that planned and executed developmental flight testing missions for advanced weapons systems (including the Tactical Tomahawk Missile) and F-14 software and weapons systems upgrades.

While attending law school, Mr. Mayle worked fulltime in the legal field. He was awarded one of two Department of Homeland Security graduate research fellowships nationally in the field of mechanical engineering while attending the Georgia Institute of Technology.

In 2016, Mr. Mayle was recognized as a “Legal Lion” by Law360 for securing a $456 million international arbitration award in a patent dispute. The arbitration award was confirmed as a judgment by the Eastern District of Virginia, and that judgement was affirmed on appeal by the Federal Circuit.
