Eben Allen focuses his practice on patent law for clients in the mechanical and medical device industries. Mr. Allen is experienced in preparing patent applications, prosecuting applications at the USPTO, coordinating patent prosecution abroad in foreign jurisdictions, and counseling clients on their patent issues.
Mr. Allen's practice includes utility patent and design patent work in a wide variety of technologies, including tactical gear (e.g., equipment for use by military, militia, or law enforcement personnel), camping equipment, outdoor and sporting goods, knives, oilfield drilling and related services, aerospace, datacenter infrastructure, HVAC and thermal load management, robotics, 3D printing, consumer machinery and products, manufacturing machinery and processes, textiles, garments, construction tools, retail infrastructure, clean energy, storm drainage, cushions, boats, and other mechanical and medical devices and the controllers for such devices.
Mr. Allen is actively involved in pro bono work. He works with pro bono clients in a variety of matters, including immigration work (e.g., U-Visa and asylum cases). He frequently volunteers at legal clinics including at an organization that focuses on serving the local homeless population and another that focuses on serving the local Latino population. In addition to his pro bono work, he also devotes a significant amount of time to his community.
Mr. Allen's experience also includes an externship during law school with the University of Washington Center for Commercialization (now CoMotion) and an internship prior to law school with the in-house patent department in the Portland, Oregon headquarters of an international manufacturer of heavy machinery.
Mr. Allen was recognized in 2021, 2022 and 2023 as one of the "Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch" for Intellectual Property Law by The Best Lawyers in America®.
