"Legal Quick Hit: Utility Models: Petty Patents with a Big Impact," Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC), June 2014.
As global commerce increases and intellectual property budgets shrink, companies and organizations need to look at different approaches to protect their intellectual property abroad. Utility models, which are often referred to as "petty patents," are more significant than the name suggests. They are underutilized by many U.S. applicants and can be part of a cost-effective foreign protection strategy. In this talk, utility models will be introduced and their benefits will be discussed.
