Rita Weeks specializes in intellectual property litigation, brand protection, and copyright counseling. Rita has served as lead counsel or second chair in dozens of trademark, trade dress, copyright, unfair competition, and licensor/licensee disputes. Complementing her nationwide federal district court litigation practice, Rita regularly litigates trademark oppositions and cancellations before the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Rita has developed particular experience protecting the brands and creative works of leading companies in the wine and spirits, fashion, food and beverage, hospitality, technology and software, toy and games, and financial industries.
Previously, Rita was a Partner in the Intellectual Property Litigation practice of an Am Law 50 firm in Washington, D.C., and a Senior Counsel in the Intellectual Property Litigation practice of another Am Law 50 firm in New York City. Additionally, Ms. Weeks also possesses in-house experience as intellectual property and social media counsel at the New York City headquarters of a Fortune 50 global financial services firm (Citigroup Inc.), and with a Big Six movie studio in Los Angeles (Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation). During her LL.M. studies, Ms. Weeks worked on deceptive advertising and consumer protection matters, and antitrust review of proposed mergers and acquisitions, at the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.
Rita frequently writes on intellectual property issues, and has also authored practice guides in trademark and copyright litigation. She is an editor of The Trademark Reporter, the world's only scholarly journal dedicated solely to trademark law and related topics, published by the International Trademark Association (INTA).
Ms. Weeks has been recognized as a “Rising Star” in Intellectual Property Litigation by Super Lawyers magazine.
