Overview

Monique Mead focuses her practice on international and domestic trademark prosecution and enforcement, as well as copyright enforcement. She has experience representing complainants and defendants before the International Trade Commission (ITC) and federal district courts, predominately in Georgia, D.C., Texas, and California. Monique represents clients in a variety of industries, including retail and consumer goods, financial, telecommunications, healthcare and medical services, technology, apparel, entertainment, flooring, packaging, and distribution.

Prior to joining the firm, Monique was an associate in the Intellectual Property Litigation Group of an international law firm in its Atlanta, Georgia office, specializing in patent and trademark litigation. In addition to her practice in federal courts, she also has experience preparing petitions before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and appealing before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB).

While attending law school, Monique served as a law clerk at one of the world’s largest pulp and paper companies, working within various departments including intellectual property, consumer products, packaging cellulose business, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, finance, and investigation, antitrust, and compliance. She was also a Dean’s Scholar Award Recipient, worked as graduate research assistant for the College of Law Admissions and Prospective Students department, and served on the Board of the Georgia State University Law Review as Symposium Editor.

Prior to launching her legal career, Monique was a professional volleyball player for the Azerbaijan Women's Volleyball Super League (Team: Telekom Baku) and the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation (Team: Las Gigantes De Carolina). Monique also worked as a Retail Development Assistant at major collegiate trademark licensing and marketing company during the off-seasons of her professional volleyball career.

Experience

*Represented a national leader in flooring in action against 45 defendants for patent infringement in ITC, obtained a General Exclusion Order preventing further infringing importations and a Cease & Desist Order against all defaulting respondents, and assisted in negotiating a multi-million dollar settlement.

*Represented a world leader in digital hardware in patent defense action, successfully obtaining a determination of noninfringement.

*Prepared petitions to institute inter partes reviews before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the latest of which resulted in the invalidation of a patent asserted against the client.

*Successfully appealed the Examining Attorney’s Final Office Action and denial for reconsideration to the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, reversing the rejection and obtaining registration for the client’s trademark.

*Represented client in a trademark defense action, defending against a preliminary injunction, registering marks under the client company’s new name, and assisting in complete rebranding of the company’s name, logo, and website.
