Overview

Dr. Alexandra Farquhar is a registered patent practitioner who focuses her practice on patent prosecution and counseling in the fields of chemistry and life sciences. Her multidisciplinary training as an organometallic chemist allows her to work with a wide range of chemical and life sciences technologies, including organic and inorganic chemistry, electrochemistry, photochemistry, catalysis, method development, and biochemistry.

While attending graduate school, Dr. Farquhar synthesized novel palladium complexes for use in catalytic olefin transformations under the direction of Professor Alexander Miller. She also worked under the direction of Professor Maurice Brookhart, in collaboration with Eastman Chemical Company, to design catalytic methods for polymerization. Prior to her graduate studies, Dr. Farquhar researched at Caltech under the direction of Nobel Laureate Professor Robert Grubbs, where she researched Z-selective olefin metathesis as well as cyclic alkyl amino carbene ruthenium complexes for ethenolysis. Dr. Farquhar is a co-author of articles appearing in scientific journals such as Angewante Chemie, Organometallics, Polymer Chemistry, and Chemical Science.

While attending the University of North Carolina School of Law, Dr. Farquhar worked with the firm as a summer associate in 2021. She served as Senior Articles Editor for the North Carolina Journal of Law and Technology, served as a civil procedure teaching assistant for Professor William Marshall, and was a recipient of the Eugene Gressman and Daniel H. Pollitt Oral Advocacy Award in 2020. Dr. Farquhar also served as a summer associate at a full-service intellectual property law firm based in Raleigh, North Carolina.
