Overview

Jennie Cunningham focuses her practice on cybersecurity, data privacy, information technology, technology licensing, global sourcing transactions, and other technology and commercial transactions. Her background in international, federal, and state privacy issues spans a variety of key statutes, policies, and regulations in data privacy and compliance including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, HIPAA, FERPA, GLBA, COPPA, Red Flags, BIPA, as well as rapidly developing areas such as biometric data, emerging tech, surveillance/national security issues, and data ethics/ethical use. Jennie's background in international relations, global trade issues, and public international law also informs her practice.

Jennie is committed to remaining on the cutting edge of the intersection between law, privacy, and geopolitics. Jennie has in-depth experience with GDPR, CCPA, and NIST assessments; program strategy, design, and implementation; strategic policy; sponsored research issues; and an array of international, transactional, and regulatory matters. She is developing ways to leverage her experience to integrate the prioritization of environmental, social, and ethical issues into client strategies.

Prior to joining the firm, Jennie was an information governance and privacy senior associate in the Cybersecurity, Privacy and Forensics practice at one of the Big Four accounting firms in its Washington, D.C. office where she advised clients on privacy and data protection practices and strategy. Previously, Jennie was a post-doctoral fellow in the Office of University Counsel at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill where she specialized in regulatory and transactional matters, privacy law, donor relations, intellectual property, and research policy.

While attending law school, Jennie served as a legal extern in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina and as a judicial extern for the Honorable Judge Mark Davis in the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Jennie also served as Notes & Comments Editor of the North Carolina International Law Review.

Jennie has basic knowledge of Spanish and has basic knowledge of French.
