Overview

Brian Assessor is a registered patent attorney who focuses his practice on U.S. and international patent drafting and prosecution. Brian works closely with client innovators to develop patent filing and patent portfolio management strategies to achieve their goals in protecting their intellectual property and commercialization of their products. He also conducts patentability, validity, freedom-to-operate, and infringement analyses. His computer engineering background gives him a unique perspective when advising clients on intellectual property matters related to software and hardware.

Prior to joining the firm, Brian was a senior associate in the Raleigh, North Carolina office of a national law firm where he helped companies obtain patent protection and performed clearance analysis for their electrical and software technologies. Previously, Brian was a senior associate in the Boston, Massachusetts office of an international law firm where he counseled clients on patent preparation and prosecution, enforcement, freedom-to-operate, and intellectual property due diligence for transactions.

Before launching his legal career, Brian was a patent analyst at a global patent research and analysis firm where he conducted various patent related searches, as well as performing patentability, infringement, freedom-to-operate, and state of the art analyses. Brian started his career at the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a patent examiner, examining patent applications in fields related to error correction and detection, fault detection and recovery, networking, and other technological fields.

Brian was recognized in 2023 as one of the "Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch" for Intellectual Property Law by The Best Lawyers in America®.
