Insights: News Releases Kilpatrick Townsend Picks Up Five Awards from Managing Intellectual Property For IP Work
Managing Intellectual Property
Firm recognized for patent and trademark work, individual achievement and Impact Case
Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton won a slate of trophies at this year’s Managing IP Awards, which were presented in an online ceremony on April 7.
The firm was named Firm of the Year in three categories: U.S. Patent Prosecution, Patent Contentious (South), and Trademark Prosecution (West). It also received an award for Impact Case of the Year for Thryv v Click-To-Call Technologies, and Mitch Stockwell was named Practitioner of the Year (Litigation) in Georgia.
The U.S. Patent Prosecution award recognizes the firm’s broad industry coverage and large geographic footprint, as well as its outstanding recent work. The Patent Contentious (South) award results from a strong year representing high-profile clients in complex litigation in Georgia and Texas.
Notably, the firm won a landmark Supreme Court case, which overturned a decision of the Federal Circuit and clarified the timeframe in which an IPR petition could be filed from the PTAB (Thryv v. Click to Call Technologies). This was recognized with an Impact Case of the Year award.
Litigator Mitch Stockwell was named Practitioner of the Year (Litigation) in Georgia in recognition of his work on the Thryv case. He has also handled notable litigation for adidas and Novelis in the past year.
The Trademark Prosecution (West) Firm of the Year award recognizes the firm’s outstanding trademark practice in particular in California and Washington.
Managing editor Ed Conlon said: “2020 was a challenging year for many people, but IP practitioners responded creatively to difficult circumstances. This year’s prestigious Managing IP Awards recognize outstanding achievements by firms throughout the world, and we congratulate all the winners.”

About the Managing IP Awards
The Managing IP Awards programme is the most comprehensive and widely respected IP awards event in the world. Now in its 16th year, the programme covers a wide range of IP practice areas and more than 30 jurisdictions. Read about the practice areas at ipstars.com.
Each year our research analysts obtain information from thousands of firms, IP practitioners and their clients through interviews, email and online surveys.
Before compiling the shortlists, our researchers evaluated the work data supplied by firms and, where applicable, reviewed publicly available information such as court and IP office records. They focused on work done or concluded in the previous year, particularly looking for case studies that were of great significance to clients and/or IP law and practice. Firms or individuals can also be shortlisted based on the researcher's independent research findings.
Managing IP launched its awards programme in 2006. The ceremony attracts hundreds of guests from private practice and in-house as well as prominent figures in the IP industry. It is regarded as the premier IP law firm awards event in the legal industry. In total, more than 1,000 guests attended the ceremonies in 2019 and 2020.
