Wes Butler Selected to the Up-and-Coming 100 and Christin Jones Selected to the Up-and-Coming 50 Women

DALLAS (March 19) -- Kilpatrick Townsend announced today that five attorneys from the firm’s Dallas office were selected as “Rising Stars” by 2018 Texas Super Lawyers. Partners Tamara Baggett and Wes Butler were named in the Business Litigation category, partner Jenny Gruber was named in the Real Estate category, attorney Christin Jones was named in the Civil Litigation: Defense category, and attorney Jason Steed was named in the Appellate category.

In addition to this prestigious list, Wes Butler was named one of the Up-and-Coming 100 and Christin Jones was named one of the Up-and-Coming 50 Women.

The Super Lawyers distinction honors attorneys who attain a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement as some of the region’s pre-eminent lawyers. Super Lawyers is a rating service of lawyers from more than 70 practice areas. The selection process includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations, all of which result in a comprehensive and diverse listing of the top five percent of attorneys in each state.

Tamara Baggett focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation with an emphasis on construction litigation, real estate law, unfair trade practices cases, and appellate advocacy. Ms. Baggett has extensive experience with product liability and personal injury defense. Her business litigation experience includes contract disputes, business torts, breach of fiduciary duties, officer and director liabilities, and antitrust. Ms. Baggett has also handled a range of intellectual property matters ranging from trade secret claims to licensing disputes. She was previously recognized as a “Rising Star” in 2012 and 2017.

Wes Butler focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, employment litigation and counseling and ERISA litigation. In addition, Mr. Butler has an active general litigation docket, including tort claims. He represents parties in state and federal court litigation and in arbitrations. Mr. Butler represents parties in administrative proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Texas Workforce Commission and other agencies. He has handled cases in the state and federal courts of Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Nebraska, New York, and Texas. Mr. Butler has been recognized as a “Rising Star” annually since 2010.

Jenny Gruber focuses her practice on complex commercial real estate and general business transactions. She has handled a wide variety of projects for owners, developers, lenders and equity investors including acquisition, development and disposition of restaurant, retail, mixed use, multi-family, office, medical and condominium projects nationwide; leasing of restaurant, retail, mixed use, office, medical and industrial properties; financing of major development and construction projects; acquisition of loans secured by commercial real estate and business assets from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation; and work-out and modification of loans secured by commercial real estate and business assets. Ms. Gruber was previously recognized as a “Rising Star” in 2017.

Christin Jones focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation and appellate litigation matters. Ms. Jones has experience in civil, real estate, and commercial litigation. Previously, she worked as a prosecutor in the appellate division of the Bexar County District Attorney’s office after interning for the Fourth Court of Appeals in San Antonio, Texas. Ms. Jones has been recognized as a “Rising Star” annually since 2015.

Jason Steed is an appellate attorney with extensive experience in both state and federal appellate courts across the nation, including the Supreme Court of the United States, the Supreme Court of Texas, the Supreme Court of California, and the Supreme Court of Alaska. He has represented clients in a variety of practice areas, including complex commercial litigation, class actions, employment litigation, qui tam/FCA litigation, product liability, and constitutional law. Mr. Steed frequently handles arbitration issues in court — such as compelling or avoiding arbitration, and confirming or vacating arbitration awards. And he is often hired to consult or collaborate with trial counsel to help shape and preserve legal arguments for any future appeal. Mr. Steed has been recognized as a “Rising Star” annually since 2016.
