ATLANTA (November 9) – Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton announced today that Ted Davis has been awarded the International Trademark Association’s (INTA) prestigious 2017 President’s Award. Recipients were honored at INTA’s annual Leadership Meeting in Washington, D.C. on November 7.
The INTA President’s Award honors the most distinguished INTA volunteers for careers dedicated to trademarks and intellectual property protection and advancement, and contributions that have advanced INTA’s mission and made a lasting impact on the Association.
As a trademark attorney for 27 years and active in INTA since 1991, Mr. Davis has had a profound influence on the Association and on U.S. trademark policy. His peers describe him as a legal icon, a terrific writer, and a tireless volunteer. Mr. Davis is best known for his work on the Trademark Reporter’s United States Annual Review, which he has co-authored for the past 17 years. He has also taken the lead in drafting a number of INTA’s amicus briefs, some of which were filed with the U.S. Supreme Court.
Mr. Davis has served on the Executive Board of INTA’s Board of Directors, as chair of the International Amicus Committee, Chair of the Famous and Well-Known Marks task force, and as a member of many other committees and task forces, including serving on the Editorial Board of the Trademark Reporter. As one member who nominated him said, “Ted excels in every capacity in which he has served.”
Mr. Davis divides his practice between domestic and international litigation and client counseling in the fields of trademark, copyright, false advertising, and unfair competition law and has particular experience in trade dress and gray market disputes, litigation before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and with large-scale trademark clearance and registration projects. In addition to his work with INTA, he is a past chair of the American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property Law, on behalf of which he has testified before Congress on trademark and Internet issues.
