Insights: News Releases Kilpatrick Townsend Partners with Jumpstart To Read for the Record

ATLANTA (November 9) – On October 27, Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton partnered with Jumpstart and participated in Read for the Record, Jumpstart’s national campaign dedicated to addressing the educational inequities that leave far too many children unprepared to succeed. Ten Kilpatrick Townsend offices across the country united with Jumpstart to read The Bear Ate Your Sandwich to more than 700 children as part of the world record-breaking campaign. Kilpatrick Townsend attorney Kimberlynn Davis is an Advisory Board Member for Jumpstart Atlanta.

Each year, Jumpstart mobilizes millions of children and adults for the world’s largest shared reading experience known as Read for the Record. Read for the Record not only inspires adults to read with children, but spurs policy makers and organizations to take action towards transformative change in early education. Since 2006, this 24-hour celebration has assembled over 17 million people. Additionally, Jumpstart holds the world reading record for the most people reading the same book on the same day. On Thursday, October 6, Twitter, Inc. hosted a kick-off event at their Atlanta headquarters in honor of the 11th anniversary of Read for the Record. This year’s official campaign book was The Bear Ate Your Sandwich by Julia Sarcone-Roach (Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers).

Jumpstart is a national early education organization that recruits and trains college students and community Corps members to serve preschool children in low-income neighborhoods. Currently, Jumpstart in the Southeast partners more than 230 Corps members with nearly 725 Atlanta preschool children living in low-income neighborhoods in and around the city. Together for the entire school year, they will work on the language and literacy skills these children need to succeed not only in school but also in life.
