Insights: News Releases Kilpatrick Townsend’s Steve Berlin Named One of North Carolina Lawyer’s Weekly 2015 Leaders in Law
WINSTON-SALEM (October 6) -- Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton announced today that Partner Steve Berlin was named one of North Carolina Lawyer’s Weekly’s 2015 Leaders in Law.
In partnership with Elon University School of Law, North Carolina Lawyers Weekly hosted the fifth annual Leaders in Law awards event on September 28th. The honorees highlighted have been deemed leaders not followers, and represent the most influential individuals within North Carolina’s legal community. They demonstrate through their practice of the profession and their day-to-day lives that service to their communities isn’t a by-product of success; in fact success is a by-product of service.
Mr. Berlin was recognized for not only being Managing Partner of Kilpatrick Townsend’s Winston-Salem office, but also for the tremendous impact he has made on economic growth and the arts in the Triad region. He played a key role in bringing Caterpillar and Herbalife to the area through his position as char of Winston-Salem Business Inc., and serves as secretary and general counsel of the Whitaker Park Development Authority. In 2014, Mr. Berlin led a successful campaign to raise more than $2.65 million for The Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. His extensive experience and deep love for the arts led to his current appointment by Governor Pat McCrory to the University of North Carolina School of the Arts Board of Trustees.
Mr. Berlin has significant experience in several areas of environmental law, including environmental litigation, business transactions involving environmental issues and environmental compliance matters. Since joining the firm, he has worked in most areas of environmental litigation, both in federal and state courts with an emphasis on private environmental costs recovery actions and representations of potentially responsible parties at Superfund sites and RCRA issues. Mr. Berlin has handled matters both at the trial and appellate levels in both federal and state courts. He has handled numerous matters involving plaintiff's claims of injury caused by contamination.
