RALEIGH (July 27) -- Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton announced today that Partner Clay Wheeler presented at a Robert Half International Inc. continuing education event on July 26, 2012 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Mr. Wheeler spoke to more than 150 Certified Public Accountants about recent federal criminal prosecutions of North Carolina accountants.
Mr. Wheeler’s presentation, “Accountants in the Crosshairs: Cautionary Tales from the US Attorney’s Office,” highlighted a series of white collar prosecutions of CPAs for criminal acts such as wire fraud, bank fraud, money laundering, and tax fraud. Mr. Wheeler and his co-presenter highlighted lessons from each case for law-abiding CPAs, including “red flags” that may indicate fraudulent activity by a corporate superior or client is afoot.
Mr. Wheeler is an experienced trial lawyer who handles complex criminal and civil litigation matters. As a member of the firm’s Special Investigations & White Collar Crime team, Mr. Wheeler helps clients respond to government enforcement actions that carry potential criminal consequences. He also counsels organizational clients on compliance issues and conducts necessary internal investigations.
