WASHINGTON, DC (July 17) -- The Obama Campaign and the Democratic National Committee have selected Kilpatrick Townsend Partner Keith Harper to serve on the 2012 Democratic National Convention Platform Committee. Mr. Harper will join other high-profile Democrats who are charged with drafting a platform that outlines Democratic priorities and highlights the President Obama’s vision ahead of the national convention, which will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina from September 4-6. Names of all individuals who will serve on the various 2012 Democratic National Convention standing committees – Platform, Rules and Credentials – were recently announced.

Mr. Harper served as a Principal Advisor and Chair of the Native American Domestic Policy Committee for the 2008 Obama Campaign and as a member of the Obama-Biden Presidential Transition Team in the Energy & Environment Cluster. President Obama appointed Mr. Harper to the Commission on White House Fellowships in 2011.

Mr. Harper focuses his practice on litigation and Native American affairs. Throughout his career, Mr. Harper has represented tribes and individual Indians. Among other matters, he has, since inception of the case, represented the plaintiff class of 500,000 individual Indians and continues to serve as class counsel in the landmark Indian trust funds lawsuit, Cobell v. Kempthorne. Recently, the parties in the Cobell suit settled the case for $3.4 billion.
